Words on the Wall: A Conversation with Călin, Creator of the "Roots" Mural

Author: Local Show Me

In the heart of the factory district, a massive mural transforms a blank wall into a story about identity and memory. We spoke with the artist behind the work to find out what lies beneath the layer of paint.

From Sketch to Wall

"The idea sat in the drawer for almost a year," confesses Călin. "It wasn't just about aesthetics, but about the exact location. This wall was always empty, but people always walked past it, in a hurry. I wanted to stop them for a moment."

The process began with numerous sketches and approvals from the community and authorities. Călin emphasizes the importance of dialogue before painting the first square centimeter. "Legal street art is a contract of trust. You are not an intruder, you are a guest bringing a gift."

"Every line is a memory, every color is a feeling. I'm not painting on a wall, I'm painting over time."

— Călin, urban artist

Hidden Meanings in Colors

The vibrant palette is not random. The deep blue represents the river that gave life to the area, and the shades of orange and yellow are a tribute to the brick factories that have disappeared. The organic shapes, resembling roots or networks, symbolize the social bonds that hold the neighborhood together.

"People see the beauty, but I hope they also feel the resilience. Just as roots break through concrete, art can break through indifference."

The Place's Reaction

The most impressive thing, says Călin, was the reaction of the residents. Elderly people who remembered the factory, children who imagined stories in the abstract shapes. "An elderly gentleman came every day with a folding chair to watch. On the last day he told me, 'Thank you for bringing life back.' That is all the success I need."
